Assessment Criteria

The Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination is a computer-based test (CBT) designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge and competency across key domains of safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) practice. The exam evaluates the ability to apply fundamental safety principles, interpret technical data, and solve real-world safety management problems.

The ASP examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible options, of which only one is correct. The questions are a combination of conceptual, analytical, and scenario-based problems that measure both theoretical understanding and practical application.

Candidates are allotted a total of five (5) hours to complete the exam, which includes time for reviewing and submitting answers. The test is administered in a secure, computer-based format at authorized Pearson VUE testing centers located worldwide.

The questions are designed to test various levels of cognition — from recall and comprehension to analysis and application. Some questions require performing numerical calculations, unit conversions, or interpreting technical data tables and charts. A formula sheet and reference data are provided on-screen during the test.

The exam is scored on a scaled system, where the minimum passing score is 114 out of 200 on the BCSP’s standardized scale. Results are made available immediately after exam completion.
